Thus, the Department of Cultural Studies and Communication (IKK) goes against interdisciplinary research in social, language and communication problems in international cooperation. For the Humanities Business and Social Sciences IKK these theories applies to problems related to economic, legal, social and cultural rights. IKK focuses on synergies between research and teaching, and reflection and independent candidates produced by an interdisciplinary and practice.

The Center for the Study of the Americas in the study of the American continent that are relevant for businesses, government agencies, organizations and media to promote. Research on integrated, multidisciplinary and transnational in the Americas and has empirical and theoretical. We call for proposals for a research project to study the relationship between human rights and migration. An example of such a prospect could be the situation (mostly undocumented) of Central America, Mexico or Caribbean immigrants with a focus on border regions. Practice and discourse of "national security" and "securitization" could be a part of the project scope. The role and actions of civil society can also be priorities.

Migration is a global phenomenon often called the movement of people from one country to another interpreted in accordance with the rule of law. Reality is more complex, especially in border regions that divide - US - the Third World and First. Southern U.S. and northern Mexico, forming a border region and the southern border of Mexico by the massive influx of immigrants from Central America's position in the United States. The Gulf of Mexico is such a border zone. There is a growing interest in the media about immigration, particularly undocumented immigration, often perceived as a threat to national security. Immigrants from Latin America and the Caribbean, and especially illegal immigrants, are often victims of violations of human rights.

General information:

A PhD scholarship runs for a period of 3 years, and includes teaching obligations equivalent of ½ year’s work (840 work hours). The scholarships are fully salaried positions, according to the national Danish collective agreement. The scholarship includes the tuition fees, office space, travel grants plus a salary, currently starting with per month app. DKK 23.770 (app. 3,160 euro) up to DKK 28.964 (app. 3,860 euro) depending on seniority, plus a pension contribution totalling 17,1 % of 85 % of the base salary.

The salary level and appointment is determined by the Ministry of Finance’s collective agreement with the Central Academic Organisation.

The PhD student will be enrolled at the PhD School in Language, Law, Informatics, Operations Management, Accounting and Culture.

To be considered, the candidate should have a basic training at the Masters level (similar to the 3 + 2 Bologna process). An educational background in the social sciences is necessary. The applicant must have successfully completed the Masters degree before commencing PhD at CBS. The applicants must be fluent in English, and preferably also in Spanish.

The application (see link below) must include a 5 page project description. This research proposal should contain a presentation of an original research question, a description of the initial theoretical framework and methodology, a presentation of the suggested empirical material as well as a work-plan.

In addition to the research proposal, the application must include the completed application form, copies of a Master’s degree certificate or other certificates of a corresponding level, brief curriculum vitae (CV), a list of papers and publications, and one copy of a selected written work (e.g. Master’s thesis).

Furthermore applicants with foreign degrees are encouraged to obtain a recognition of their qualifications by The Danish Agency for International Education that provides assessments of non-Danish degrees, diplomas and certificates and gives information about international recognition of qualifications http://en.iu.dk/recognition. The recognition of foreign qualifications can take up to 2 months. It is possible to send the recognition after the deadline (max one month) if necessary. A committee of experts in the field in question will assess the applications. The assessment of the applicants will be based on the quality and relevance of the project, including an evaluation of the applicant’s ability to accomplish it. Following this assessment, the management of the department will select the winners of the scholarships.

Humans solve the problems of interpreting multimedia documentation by both exploiting structural regularities in the data, as well as making use of common sense and specialized knowledge that explicitly represents the meaning of data. In spite of this simple observation, current approaches to processing content over the Internet are based either on a statistical approach, which exploits the regularities of the content encoded in a statistical model (using machine learning methodologies), or, alternatively, by logical approaches, by exploiting logical knowledge encoded via logical theories (semantic web and ontologies). In both cases this unilateral approach leads to a limitation in the performance or in the quality of the results.

An Initiative of German Industry for Future Leaders from Subsaharan Africa

the initiative AFRIKA KOMMT! (AFRICA IS COMING!) was called into being by 19 leading German enterprises – the very first joined initiative for capacity building of German industry. It aims at young highly qualified professionals from Subsaharan African countries with several years of work experience on the job and in some cases already holding a leading position.
After the successful completion of the first run, the German companies have decided to continue with AFRIKA KOMMT!

The purpose of the programme is the qualification of young professionals and junior executives in international management competencies. During a twelvemonth stay in Germany, a nine-month internship in one of the participating companies forms the core of the programme. The practical training gives participants the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of management practice and to participate in economic, social and organisational change processes and will enable them to establish a network between cooperation partners from their home companies and German companies. The programme will be conducted in German.

At the CQ Center for Collective Quantum Phenomena and their Applications, we offer research opportunities on the subjects:

- Cold atom / solid state interactions and hybrid quantum systems. We investigate interactions between cold atoms and carbon nanotubes, superconductors, and plasmonic structures in order to form coupled cold atom / solid state hybrid quantum systems. We explore physics at the interface between atoms, solids and light.
- Quantum atom optics, atom interferometry.
- Quantum many-body physics, correlations in ultracold Bose and Fermi gases.

The doctoral program is closely linked to research programs funded by the DFG, BMBF, and ERC. Full financial support (TV-L E13/2) is available up to three years. Thesis supervisor: Prof. József Fortágh.

The CQ Center offers a unique research environment involving groups in experimental cold atom physics, experimental and theoretical condensed matter physics, nanotechnology, and computational quantum physics. Visitor programs and collaborations provide lively international

Marie Curie Fellowship for PhD students in Environmental Chemistry

High-Throughput -Toxicity-Screening by means of in-vitro methods for testing of selected chemicals and nano-particles in mixtures.

Program Description

The primary objective of this ITN is to contribute to the education of environmental chemo-informaticians who will receive an advanced training in both environmental sciences and computational in silico methods.

The fellows of the network are expected to apply their knowledge for the implementation of REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) in particular with respect to the replacement, refinement and reduction of animal tests by alternative (in silico and in vitro) methods.

Research will assess applicability of experimental high throughput screening (HTS) methods for the assessment of toxicity of nano-particles and of a standard Water Framework Directive (WFD) list of compounds (both single and mixtures) using several protocols (Tetrahymena species, rat hepatoma cells (H4IIE), transfected yeasts cells (S. cerevisiae) with the human estrogen receptor (hER α)).

The results of the experiments with WFD-list compounds will be important to compare their toxic effects in the bulk state with those of nano-particles and to better understand their mode of action. This will allow better to understand which factors govern their behaviour and bioavailability as well as the toxicological effects of the chemicals and materials tested.

Duty and responsibility

This call is open to all proposals within the scope of the center’s research interests and activities. We also encourage applications in the field of History of Science in the German-Jewish Context.

Applicants interested in a postdoctoral fellowship must have been awarded the Ph.D. no earlier than October 01, 2006. Applications for a doctoral fellowship can only be accepted if the applicant has been a Ph.D. student for not more than five years.

Applicants may be of all nationalities. Israeli citizens applying for a doctoral fellowship must be registered at the Hebrew University as a Ph.D. student. Israeli citizens who are registered as Ph.D. students at a university abroad will be treated as international applicants.

Amount Awarded

Successful applicants will be granted a monthly stipend equivalent to 1,500 Dollars. Furthermore, international applicants will be enrolled at the Rothberg School for International Students at the Hebrew University which covers health insurance. Fellows from abroad will also be allotted a round-trip flight (up to $800 or €600).

Applicants must submit:

- Application Form (download form for doctoral fellowships or postdoc fellowships from the website of the Center)
- A letter of application
- The research proposal (3 - 10 pages)
- Curriculum Vitae
- An example of written work, max. 30 pages
- Two letters of recommendation
- Official M.A. or Doctoral Diploma

All material can be written either in English, German or Hebrew. Please arrange for the letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the Rosenzweig Minerva Center by your referees.

Postsecondary Child Care Grant Program Administration

Program Description and Appropriations History

The Child Care Grant program provides financial assistance to students who have children 12 and under, are not receiving assistance under the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), and who demonstrate financial need for grants, to help pay for child care while pursuing a postsecondary education.

Program Overview

Funds are allocated to eligible postsecondary institutions based on the number of students who report children on the financial aid application. Eligible institutions include all public colleges and universities, private baccalaureate degree-granting institutions and non-profit vocational technical schools granting associate degrees.

Applicants must:

be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizen
meet state residency requirements
not be recipients of MFIP
be enrolled at least half-time (defined in statute for this program as six credits per term)
not have earned a baccalaureate degree or been enrolled on a full-time basis for eight semesters, 12 quarters, or the equivalent
not be in default of any educational loan
be making satisfactory progress
not be receiving tuition reciprocity benefits from another state, and
be pursuing a nonsectarian program or course of study that applies to an undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate.

The award is based upon the income of the applicant and spouse, the number in the applicant's family, the number of eligible children within the family who need child care, and the applicant's level of enrollment.

The maximum award amount is $2,600 per eligible child per academic year. The amount of the award cannot exceed 40 hours of child care per week per eligible child. The institution may increase the amount shown on the maximum award chart by 10 percent for infant care in certain counties.

COMMONWEALTH AND OVERSEAS STUDENTSHIPS

Scholarships or student grants program description
The College awards about seventeen Commonwealth and Overseas Studentships annually. The awards are made to graduates who have been registered to read for Cambridge Ph.D. Degree. Recipients will be required to be members of St Edmund's College.

The Studentships will be awarded in any field of study and there is no age restriction all applicants must be from Commonwealth or Overseas Countries. The value of the Studentship is £500 in the first year and a further £250 in the second and third years, a total of £1,000. Application forms are available from the Tutorial Office and should be sent to the Senior Tutor, St Edmund's College, Cambridge, CB3 0BN. Awards will be made in the Michaelmas Term. Awards will normally be made in the Michaelmas Term.
